WEBFISHING - A Simple Guide
A straightforward guide to the main mechanics of Webfishing.
Introduction
This is a short, straightforward, and comprehensive guide in regards to the main mechanics of āWebfishingā.
It is the collective information from multiple sources that can be found at the end of this guide and is written for āV1.08ā. Updates and extensions to this guide are undecided but entirely plausible.
Please enjoy š£
The Basics
We'll start with a simplified explanation of how the fishing mechanic works in-game.
To fish you simply throw your line into any body of water and wait. When you get a catch you'll begin the āFishing Minigameā. The Fishing Minigame is exactly as it sounds; its a minigame for you to confirm your catch.
To break it down; The green bar is your progress, your goal is to have it reach the bottom of the fishing rod before the red bar surpasses it. This is done by simply holding down m1. You will encounter Yank Points along the way, these are destroyed by clicking m1 as many times as required. The Yank Points serve both as a difficulty when fishing but also as information, along with the Stars in the top corner of your screen (more details in the BAIT section)
There are TWO types of fish:
(Caught in lakes, ponds, rivers, wells, and toilets)
(Caught in the sea and in the void)
There is a third section in the journal next to Freshwater and Saltwater sections, however these can be mostly classified as Junk items.
When you throw out your line you have a 5% chance to be fishing for Junk instead of actual fish, and an additional 2% for that Junk to become Treasure instead. Junk can be caught in any body of water.
Regardless of where you fish the mechanics for what fish you catch remain the same:
- Behind the scenes the game will pick 3 random fish. The same fish can be picked multiple times
- By default the last fish picked will be the fish you end up catching.
- The only time this changes is when you have a Lure equipped as the game will then take into account which fish out of the 3 best fits said lure and pick that one instead.
Bait
The Bait you use determines TWO things;
- What TIER of fish you can catch
- The chance of getting different QUALITIES of fish
There are six types of Quality a fish can be, and each Bait has a corresponding maximum Quality it can catch.
Worms - NORMAL
Crickets - SHINING ā
Leeches - GLISTENING āā
Minnows - OPULENT āāā
Squids - RADIANT āāāā
Nautilus - ALPHA āāāāā
When within the āFishing Minigameā; the āāSTARSāā in the top left of your screen indicate the Quality of the fish you are catching.
There are only THREE TIERS of fish.
- Worms allow you to catch Tier 1 and Tier 2 fish.
- Every other bait will allow you to catch ALL Tiers of fish.
The best Bait for each Quality Normal (Tier 1-2) = Worms Normal (Tier 3) = Crickets Shining = Minnows Glistening = Squids Opulent, Radiant, and Alpha = Nautilus
Fishing Rod(s)
Fishing Rod visual changes (Such as; Spectral, Shining, Collectors, etc) Have no affect on gameplay and are purely cosmetic.
Upgrades however, do affect gameplay. The descriptions in game are a little misleading so below are more detailed explanations as to what they actually do.
Rod Power:
Increases the value of each mouse click for breaking the Yank Points in the āFishing Minigameā.
Reel Speed:
Increases the speed in which the green bar moves during the āFishing Minigameā.
Catch Chance:
There's a lot of math people smarter than me have figured out when it comes to the Catch Chance in this game. The explanation below is an incredibly simplified version:
Every 2-3 seconds the game generates a random number between 0-1 If random # < Catch Chance = Triggers the fishing minigame By default the Catch Chance is 0.06
TLDR; 6% chance every 2-3 seconds for a fishing minigame to start
You can upgrade your Catch Chance in a multitude of ways;
- Upgrading your Fishing Rod's Catch Chance
- Reeling your line in every few seconds whilst you fish
- Equipping the Attractive Lure
- Fishing under a Rain Cloud
- Drinking a Catcher's Cola Booster
āFor the tryhardsā; if all above mentioned conditions are met you can reach a Catch Chance of around ā13.5% every 2-3 secondsā.
Rod Luck:
Increases the Quality of coinbags you can catch as ā*bonus loot *ā.
Tacklebox:
Increases the amount of Bait you can carry without increasing the value of refills.
Lures
Similar to the āBaitā, the descriptions of what each Lure does can be a bit confusing and so they have been simplified below.
Fly Hook:
Increases the catch rate for smaller fish by picking the smallest fish selected out of the initial trio (aforementioned mechanics of fishing) It should be noted that this is based on PHYSICAL SIZE (cm) and not the PREFIX
Lucky Hook:
Provides an additional 1-10% of the value of each catch in cash
Patient Hook:
The fishing minigame will not start without player imput You could also just open text chat as that delays the Fishing Minigame for a while
Quick Jig:
Increases Rod Power by 15% and Reel Speed by 25%
Salty Lure:
Allows you to fish for Saltwater fish in any body of water
Fresh Lure:
Allows you to fish for Stillwater fish in any body of water
Efficient Lure:
20% chance to not use Bait on a catch (successful or not)
Magnet Lure:
Increase the Junk catch chance to 10% (5% base) and the Treasure catch chance to 4% (2% base)
Large Lure:
Increases the catch rate for larger fish by picking the largest fish selected out of the initial trio (aforementioned mechanics of fishing) It should be noted that this is based on PHYSICAL SIZE (cm) and not the PREFIX
Attractive Angler:
Increase Catch Chance by 30%
Sparkling Lure:
25% chance to consume extra āBaitā. Increases the Catch Chance of higher Tier fish by picking the highest Tier fish available from the initial trio (aforementioned mechanics of fishing)
Double Hook:
25% chance to consume an extra āBaitā. 15% chance to duplicate/ double the caught fish/ Junk
Golden Hook:
Always consume 3 āBaitā. Increases chances of catching Rare Fish by picking the rarest fish available from the initial trio (aforementioned mechanics of fishing)
The Rare fish in question:
- Golden Bass (Stillwater)
- Golden Manta Ray (Saltwater)
- Leedsichthys (Rain Clouds / Any)
- Diamond (Any)
Challenge Lure:
Popups will continuously appear during the Fishing Minigame with each popup needing to be clicked in time, failure to do so will result in the red bar increasing significantly. Each successful popup clicked will results in a small % of the fish's worth to you in cash You need to click them with your mouse cursor, you can freely miss and click as much as you like before reaching the popup
Buddies & Tips
Buddies
Buddies are useful ways to make passive income whilst doing literally anything while playing. Simply place them down anywhere and they will eventually give you a notification that they have caught a fish and will wait for you to collect.
They can catch any fish of any Quality or ā**Tier **ā(within their respective buckets) but can only hold one fish at a time. You will be notified with both a popup on your screen and an icon over their head if they have caught a fish.
- Your upgrades (Bait & Lure) do not affect them in any way.
- Removing the Buddies through any means will return them, and their acquired fish, to your inventory.
Tips
For those desiring smaller useful tips either to get started or for quality of life whilst fishing.
Early Game: Use the Lucky Lure alongside a Catcher's Cola Ultra to make a bit more money with every catch.
Money Making: Using the Challenger Lure with a Catcher's Cola Ultra can lead to some pretty insane money making methods. Discovered by a friend; if ever you get an easy amount of Yank Spots you can intentionally delay finishing the Fishing Minigame to click more popups and earn more money.
- Landing your bobber on or near small rippling circles will guarantee a Fishing Minigame. These are not predetermined fish.
- Blue mushrooms (and gloves) will send you and your friends flying a fair distance.
- The Golden Hook (x3%) is more efficient than the Magnet Lure (x2%) for catching ādiamondsā.
>
- The Patient Hook is ideal if you have this game on in the background while you draw, write, or watch a video
- Avoid spinning in circles with large fish and waiting to sell absurd amounts of them at once. This game can occasionally struggle with fps drops for those on lower end machines when this is done. āBe considerate to your fellow fishersā.
